Aren't words wonderful? I've spent a lot of time over the past few years "diving into" dictionaries and thumbing through the thesaurus. Each time I hope to find that "perfect word" to help me name a product, finish a sentence, or describe a memory. In the process I have built up many favorites - like "juicy" or "squeamish." I love words that create a visual or emotional response. Sometimes just one word can 'open the flood gates' to our memories!
I am inviting you to join me, each Wednesday, as I share some of my favorite words. I'll share my thoughts about each word and I hope you will too.
I love the word...
MY SCANDALOUS STORY... A couple of years ago I heard the song "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira on the radio and I really liked it. The beat is great, it makes me want to dance, and I love the line where the guy says, "makes a boy want to speak Spanish."
"Hum-mm...., " I think to myself. "I guess it is a little risque; but, I am an adult, right? I really like this song." I decided to buy it.
So, there I am, listening to the new song on my computer, and my teenager comes in... "MOM!" she says, "I can't believe you bought that song!" Now, I am feeling caught - red handed, and I am trying to explain and rationalize this recent purchase to my impressionable young daughter.
You'd think I would have learned my lesson right? But, Gwen Stefani came out with a song called "The Sweet Escape." I heard it on the radio and I decided to buy it too. But, this time, when I went to make the purchase I noticed the words "EXPLICIT" next to the song. I bought it anyway. Now, I am really misbehaving, by my own standards. (I wouldn't let my children buy a song that says EXPLICIT next to it.)
I got caught again. I was listening to Gwen, and Alexis (age 10) turns around and says, "Mom did she just say h---!"
"Scandalous" - there is something about that word that makes us stop and listen. Let it out ladies - it is time to tell all! (I am not talking about "tabloid" or "6 o'clock news" scandal. I am a conservative kind of girl so a little scandal goes a long way here.)

What is your version of "Scandalous?"
I hope you will treat this exploration of words as a weekly prompt to expand your journals. Together we can create personal pages with the fabulous, crazy, wonderful moments that make us who we are.
* I am having a bit of fun with this project by creating an "Oh my word" mini album (Created with Mosaic Moments RTC Grid Paper) to hold the "oh my words" and the thoughts, memories, and personal insights they evoke.
Because my pages are created with a french fold, I have a "pocket" space. So, I used an "insert" with a tab to add the full story:
A Note about TYPOGRAPHY:
Another fun thing about words is considering the typography used to create them. The type I used to create the word "scandalous" below is called Busorama.
Busorama is an ornamental display type created with all capital letters. It is based on Art Deco forms (reminiscent of the roaring twenties - a time period that brings to mind scandalous behavior.)
