Recently I received some adorable photos of my grandsons wearing vintage clothing. I was excited to see that the vintage-style photos go so well with this month’s featured Grid Paper: Sunflower. I chose an analogous color scheme of yellow, green and orange combined with the sepia photo of Gregory, to give my page an old-fashioned summery feel. An analogous color scheme -- any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel -- creates soothing effects and a subtle, unified palette, perfect for lazy summer days.
Once I had chosen my color scheme, I began experimenting with different ways to use my Grid Paper. To make “li’l rascal” I simply cut the BasicGrey Aromatherapy paper into one-inch squares using the Mosaic Moments Self-Healing 14X14 Cutting Mat, the same way I cut a photo for a mosaic. This kept the pattern intact so that when I glued each square to my Grid Paper the flowers were still clearly visible. Once I had covered the entire sheet of Grid Paper I had a new background for my LO that added a wonderful dimension to my page.
The buttery color of the Sunflower Grid Paper looks just as pretty on the back as on the grid side, so I turned it over, hand-cut a circle and adhered it upside down as a journaling mat. The white photo mat is also the reverse side of a piece of Grid Paper.
You are going to love the rich color of this Sunflower paper as yellow is the most cheerful and mentally stimulating color of the spectrum. If you look at all the color options next to your own photos, chances are one of the following color schemes will jump right out at you. Give some of my techniques and your favorite color scheme a try with the Sunflower Grid Paper for a new and interesting result!
