Hello Again! I hope you are having a wonderful February so far! This month is all about Decorating Paper Tiles.
If you are familiar with Paper Tiles, you know they are easy to use. They make great embellishments and photo mats for Mosaic Moments pages. I'm going to give a few ideas on how you can embellish them more. First, I am going to show how you can create a simple frame using Paper Tiles. The next idea is how to create a border on the edge of a 4.375w x 6.625h block. The third idea tells you how to add ribbon as an embellishment on a Paper Tile. And the last idea on this post will be how to use stickers, or other decor to make your own pattern paper out of Paper Tiles.
Creating a Simple Frame
Here is what You need to create this Frame:
- A Paper Tile of your choice (Tip: for this method, I do not recommend using a 4.375 w x 6.625h Paper Tile with a 4x6 photo... it is not quite long enough. For this size and longer you will need a larger photograph)
- A Photo Corner Punch
- Photograph of your Choice
Directions to create this Frame:
I chose to use a 4.375 square Paper Tile, which is a good size to create a frame. I also chose this pretty Photo Corner Punch shown below.
To create the frame, just simply punch out each of the four Corners on the Paper Tile. Make sure the corner of the Paper Tile is the punch as far as it can possibly fit.
Each Corner should look like this when you are done:
Here is the final image again. Wasn't that Easy!
When you add your photograph make sure that each side is cut 3/8 shorter than your Paper Tile block. The last step is slip in the photograph under the flaps. You can use tape to hold the photo in place.
Creating a Border on a 4.375w x 6.625h Block
Whenever you use a 4.375h x 6.625w Paper Tile, there is a little empty space on one edge since a 4x6 photograph cannot fit. Usually at Mosaic Moments, we use this space for journaling. But, sometimes you may want to make a decorative edge instead.
What You Need:
- Two 4.375w x 6.625 Paper Tiles Blocks
- A Border Punch
- Tape
Directions:
First you need to pick a punch you like. There are different varieties of border punches you can purchase. I chose this one in honor of Valentines, and I think the hearts would look pretty on the edge of a Paper Tile.
Take one end of the Paper Tile and Punch it carefully along the border. This particular punch is nice since you can line up the parts you already punched out so it will cut out evenly.
Here is a detail shot of the edge of the Paper Tile. Next you need to take the second 4.375 x 6.625 Paper Tile and tape it underneath this one. Without the second Paper Tile, it will not be able to cover the grid lines.
This is another example of a decorative Edge where I used this footprint punch:
Here is a Mosaic Moments™ 12x12 page with the Paper Tile Frame and the 4.375 x 6.625 block with a decorative edge:
"Just Engaged" supplies used: This page was created using Mosaic Moments™ 12x12 Lotus grid paper. Light Pretty Pink, Dark Pretty Pink, Medium Aqua, and Pear Crush Paper Tiles™ were used as photo mats on this page. A Medium Pink Love Bird Cornerstone and pattern paper from Echo Park This & That 6x6 paper pad were used as embellishments on this page.
Adding Ribbon to One Edge
Many of you have probably seen many pages with ribbon on the Paper Tiles. Ribbon makes a really nice embellishment... and it is really easy to attach it to a Paper Tile.
What You Need:
- A Paper Tile of your choice (A larger Paper Tile usually works the best)
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Tape
Directions:
Here I used a 4.375w x 5.5h block. To begin this process, take a roll of ribbon, and measure it above the Paper Tile. Cut the ribbon about two inches longer than the width of the Paper Tile.
After you cut the ribbon turn it over on the back and tape over an inch at each end of the ribbon.
Fold the Ribbon over so it sticks to the back of the Paper Tile.
Finished! Now there is a nice ribbon on the Paper Tile. Simple.
But it doesn't end there... you can tie a knot, or add a sticker or other embellishment to complete your ribbon. These are a few examples:
For this Paper Tile, I decided to use this heart charm. If you would like to see the Mosaic Moments Page I placed this on, scroll down to the bottom of this post.
Using Stickers and Other embellishments to Decorate Paper Tiles
Using stickers is a great way to decorate Paper Tiles. You are basically making your own pattern paper.
What You Need:
- Paper Tiles - you can use 1 or multiple Paper Tiles
- Stickers, Rub Ons, Stamps, or other embellishment you can easily cut through
Directions:
Here I took a 2.125w x 6.625h Paper Tile and I decided to use this Rub On I found. The first thing to do is decide where you would like to place your embellishment on the Paper Tile(s).
Next, stick on your embellishment. Here I am using an embossing tool to place the Rub On.
You're Done! Now you have a nice Paper Tile to add to your Mosaic Moments Page. You can leave the Paper Tile as is or cut it if you would like. I decided to cut my Paper Tile into 2.125 x 1 in. strips.
This page shows the final result of my decorative Paper Tile and it shows the Paper Tile with the ribbon on the border:
"Love" supplies used: This page was created using Mosaic Moments™ White 8x8 grid paper. A Medium Peach Paper Tile™ and a Four Square Love Cornerstone were used as embellishments. A BasicGrey™ Rub On, and a blue ribbon with a heart charm were also embellishments placed on this page.
I hope you enjoyed learning about Paper Tiles. Be creative and don't be afraid to give your ideas on Journella! Come back next week to see Part 2 of this post.
