Quick and Easy Thanksgiving Place Cards

I hope you all are having a wonderful time getting ready for the holidays! I know that it can be chaotic trying to get everything ready, so I have a very easy project for all of you. It truly is quick and easy.

I will be giving you a simple Thanksgiving Idea using our new Free Download. This post will show how to use the free download as a place card, and how you can use it for your next Thanksgiving Mosaic page. For this simple project all you need is:

• "Grateful Journaling Block" Free Download from Snapncrop
• Place card Holders
• a pen and pencil
• a good eraser (one that will not smudge your pencil lines)
• Exacto knife

 

Below is an image of the Grateful Journaling Blocks. There are 6 grateful blocks on one sheet. You can use the 1 in. squares on a fall or Thanksgiving themed page. You can always print multiple sheets if you have more than 6 guests, and you can print on different colored card-stock if you do not want a white background. The designs on the sheet will work better with lighter colors.

After ordering this from snapncrop, you will have a PDF file. Before you print, make sure the image is sized at 100% and/or set on actual size. When the Print settings come up Never change the size of the PDF to "fit to page". It will not be the right size for Mosaic Moments grid paper if you do this.

After you print, cut each piece with an Exacto knife. Place your guests'/family members' names on the very top line of each card. I highly recommend writing each of the names lightly with a pencil first. Once you have the names written the way you like, use a dark pen over the pencil lines. Use a good eraser to get any extra pencil markings.

 

 

Once you have your names written you will need to get a place holder. You can probably find some cheap ones at the dollar store or someplace like Walmart or Target. I have a little project you could also consider using. Below is an image of a large clip. You can find these at any office store. Notice how the clips are pointed up? You can use these to hold each of the Grateful Journal Blocks.

 

Decorate the clip how you would like. You can make it simple or elaborate. I like a simple design. I used pattern paper from BasicGrey. I cut the paper 2 x 3.25 inches and glued right on the clip. I also used a fabric leaf sticker to add a little color. So Simple! Add your grateful card on the clips and your done!

 

The grateful cards are wonderful because on thanksgiving you can have everyone write down what they are grateful for. So not only is it a great place holder, but you can also use the blocks to store the memories of that particular Thanksgiving. Once you get back to scrappin' your holiday pages, add the journaling blocks to one of your Thanksgiving pages.

 

Below is a page that I designed with the grateful blocks. Thanksgiving hasn't come around yet, so until then the cards are blank. But, this page gives you an idea on how to scrap using these blocks. Now you have a way to show what everyone was grateful for and the cards show each guests' handwriting as well. Notice that I used the 1 in. blocks from the download on here as well.

"Grateful for..." supplies used: This page was created with Mosaic Moments™ 12x12 Palm Leaf grid paper and "Grateful Journaling Blocks" Free Download. The turkey was made with pattern paper from Crate Paper™ and Simple Stories™.

Misting Three Ways

Welcome to the October 1st Design Each Moment

Today I’d like to show you a great home-dec project that can be adapted to any season, or subject you’d like to feature using the Mosaic Moments RTC Grid paper. I call it Misting Three Ways.

 

 

This weekend I completed a family photo shoot in the hopes of getting the annual family photo for our Christmas cards.  This year was unique. Two of my five children are now married and have their own traditions to begin, but I thought I’d try to do this once to see how it would go. The project feature today is one way to show multiple photos off at one time. It makes a great gift for Grandparents too!  While it is presented in a clear 12” x 12” holder, it could easily be displayed in a wooden shadow box to add to the fall theme.

Here are the items you will need: 

• 12” x 12” sheet of RTC in either white or ivory (my choice: ivory)  
• 4 shades of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists (my choice: gold, peach delight, candy apple red, olive vine)
• Assorted leaf die cuts to use for masking or you can use real leaves of varying sizes and shapes
• Leaf stencil
• Frame or shadow box
• Seasonal ribbon for hanging frame

If you have done any misting in the past, you know it can be messy so be sure you lay some newspapers down in the area you will be misting to avoid unnecessary mess and make clean-up easy.

1. Begin with your choice of color of the RTC Grid Paper and your leaf stencil. I used the olive vine for this portion and the fern type leaf.
2. Block off the leaves you aren’t using with a strip of scrap paper to isolate the one you intend to spritz. Dotted adhesive will anchor it well. Once finished this will also give you a leaf you can use by cutting it out. This is Mist Way One. 
3. Use scrap paper on all sides to avoid as much of the “drift” from misting. Use dotted adhesive around the leaf image to keep in close to the surface and avoid spreading. Mist.
4. Then with your lightest color add a few spritz around the page.
5. Layer your leaf die cuts around the page including over some the areas you just spritzed. They will be your mask to create leaf shapes in the negative space. This is Mist Way Two. 
   
6. Continue to spritz your colors randomly around the page until you are satisfied with how it appears.  I checked by placing paper tiles in the correct spots to gage the overall look. 
7. At this point you will be able to move your leaf die cuts around slightly to allow a double image when you mist again with your lightest color again. 
8. Finally, the leaves that you used as masks now have layers of several colors on them and make a perfect embellishment for your final presentation. This is Misting Way Three. 
   

 

This will take time to dry before you will be able to add your photos to the prepared grid, so it’s a good time to prepare the photos you want to use. Each square section on the RTC Grid Paper measures 3 ¼”. You will need nine photos or eight and a center title. Once the page is completely dry you may want to weigh it down to flatten it before continuing. As the misting can cause some warping.   Arrange the photos the way you like them and adhere. Then if you like, add some of the leaves that you used as masks and place on the page. I chose to use the leaves strategically to cover up a few distractions.  One was a chair we had used to stand my granddaughter on and another was where her legs showed up dangling mid-air.

After sliding the layout into the frame I used a length of fall ribbon through the top and tied in a bow so that it can be used to hang the frame.

This project could easily be done with a winter theme using snowflake die cuts and shades of blue on white RTC Grid Paper.  Add you own creativity for spring and summer themes and change the pages out seasonally. Add them to your scrapbook albums for safe keeping when moving on to the next season and keep the pages fresh and new.

6x6 Holiday Cards

Hello Everyone!! Are you excited for the Holiday Season? I am! The fall season is a great time to prepare for the holidays. This post is about creating 6x6 Holiday Cards using Mosaic Moments™ 6x6 grid paper. Mainly I will be giving you ideas to help you brainstorm and choose what style you would like your cards to be.

6x6 is a great size since it allows a good variety of photographs, embellishments, and journaling. There are numerous styles and layouts you can do on the grid paper. I will only be showing a few different cards today but I hope it helps you feel inspired for the Holiday Season!

Note: If 6x6 is too large for you, consider using Mosaic Moments 4x4 RTC paper for creating different types of cards as well.

 

This post was created in celebration of World Card Making Day!

World Card Making Day is on October 6! This is a wonderful day to start making your cards. For September you can use the tips, techniques, and ideas from this post to help brainstorm. Choose the style and layout you would like, purchase the materials needed, and then you can start the actual card making at the beginning of October! 

Before Making your cards, Here are some Materials to consider using for this project:

• A Mosaic Moments™ Mat
• Ruler, Dotto tape, and other materials usually used with Mosaic Moments
• Embellishments (consider using flat embellishments like pattern paper, stickers Cornerstones, etc, remember that thicker/3deminsional objects may make the envelope too bulky)
• Photographs of your choice
• 6x6 grid paper
  

 

 

Mosaic Moments Card Style 1: Photographs and Journaling on the Same Side

This is one of my favorite cards on this month's post. It is simple and elegant. I wanted to make one of my cards a more formal style. If you would like a formal style card consider using colors such as Navy (shown above), Plum, Gold, Silver, Brick Red, or Forrest Green. You may also want to use a black & white photograph. You can brighten up your page, as I did above, with a colorful ribbon and charm. The ornament charm I used was made from a punch.

This is a very simple layout and is a great option for showing a larger photograph or two smaller ones. On the left side is spacing for journaling. This space is great if you would like to add a title. For this card I put in a short description of how my year went. This is a good option if you do not have time to write a long Holiday Newsletter, but would still like to give everyone a short message.

 

 

 

Mosaic Moments Card Style 2: Photographs and Embellishments on the Same Side

This is a fun and colorful layout. Here I used a few different pattern papers from BasicGrey™, plum paper, and a couple of white Mini Snowflake Cornerstones (chalk inked pink). If you want a fun layout consider doing a patchwork look of different types of paper as I did on this page. This page is really easy with the 1 in. punch. Just choose a few different papers you like and punch away!

This page simply has one photo and embellishments. See the image below to see how I used journaling for this card.

 

Although there is not a grid on the back of the paper, you can always embellish the back of your 6x6 cards. Here I cut a piece of plum card-stock into a square and added type on the back of this card. 

This is a great option if you would like to use your cards as your Holiday Newsletter. You can either hand write or type up your journaling. If you type your journaling, you can print it on a 6x6 sheet OR print it and cut it to fit on the 6x6 card. If you do this option make sure all of your type will fit on this size sheet when putting it together on your computer. If you plan to use any embellishments like I did here, make sure you plan ahead so your type will take up the right spaces.

Mosaic Moments Card Style 3: Just Embellishments

I consider this to be a traditional style card. This style would mostly have the traditional holiday colors. Since it is a Christmas card it is mainly made up of Red and Green colors. If you are not interested in adding photographs to your cards, consider just using embellishments on your grid paper. The grid paper is wonderful since it will help you get a nice clean look.

There are many embellishments you can use. Here I used three different types of pattern paper and alphabet stickers. I also used chalk ink around the edges of the grid paper to give it some more color. If you would like, you can write a simple hand written note on the back.

Tip: On snapncrop you will find 6x6 grid paper in White and Black. If you want a different color you can use Tintz or other color ink or spray to color the White grid paper.





Mosaic Moments Card Style 4: Mostly Photographs


Of course you can use multiple photographs with the Mosaic Moments grid paper! I added a few embellishments, but you can always have your card be only made up of photographs. This is a great option if you want to show different photographs of events that happened through out the year, or showing multiple photos of your family. I put a few Mini Snowflake Cornerstones (chalk-inked) and pattern paper to add some color to this card. Use this style if you like a clean, modern look.

This is the back of the card I showed above. You can also mat a photograph on the back of the 6x6 grid paper. You can add interest to your card by putting black & white photographs on one side and color photographs on the other. Here I used pattern paper to mat my photo, added a sticker, and put a simple "Happy Holidays" message.
