Though I don't use a lot of patterned paper on my scrapbook pages. When the opportunity presents itself, I love to use it. : )
There are some occasions, as rare as they may be, when I don't have a ton of great photos that I am trying to fit on a page. For the page above I only had two photos of Cole's quick tour in the airplanes cockpit. In addition to the event, I added a couple photos of clouds from my "stock" photos.
To increase the "dramatic effect" of the clouds I increased the contrast in the photos to create a deep blue sky. I cut the cloud images into "mosaic pieces" to give the illusion that they came from one photograph.
I used one of my favorite paper brands - Basic Grey (baby boy collection) - as a finishing touch to the page. I love using paper as an embellishment. I have more control with the patterned paper when I cut it up. I want to decide which parts to use and which parts can be seen - without it controlling my design, etc.
