Add a little "comfort" to your pages!
Jaime, a good friend, sent me some photos of her family at a petting zoo in Utah. The photos reminded me of county fairs. When I lived in the west I loved to go to the county fair and look at the displays of home made pies, prize pigs, and hand made quilts. (Our home county doesn't have a fair grounds or a big county fair; so, we haven't been to a fair since we moved to Williamsburg.)
I decided to add a simple border that would help convey that "country" life style on my scrapbook page. I cut several 1 inch squares out of patterned paper and then cut several of them at a 45 degree angle. Then I "patched" them together to create a new square. (See detail image below.)
Things I enjoyed about the County Fair:
1. The animal exhibits - especially the rabbits and the chickens.
2. The art and photography by local artists.
3. The quilts and needle point.
4. The vendors - there was always some interesting new gadget for sale.
5. Fried Foods - especially elephant ears (YUM!).
6. The atmosphere - Walking around watching people have a good time.

Things I enjoyed about the County Fair:
1.Competing. This was a family effort. The kids started baking at age five for the fair, and winning. We all baked, some of us have entered in the drawing/painting/cross-stitching and photography categories, too. Hannah won Jr Homemaker of the year twice.
2. Watching the judging. Making friends with your competition and cheering everyone on.
3. Enjoying the auction of the baked goods after the Thursday competition.seeing how much the best of show items sold for.
4. Winning ribbons. Always fun.
5. Roaming the fair grounds on Mondays while Monday judging is going on, safe enough to let the kids roam on their own.
6. Gyros, Fresh Lemonade, cotton candy, deep fried anything (well, some limits) and the very best milkshakes made by the 4H club...so many flavors!
7. Music...this year Big and Rich, last year Josh Turner. Local fiddle competitions. Cloggers and square dancers.
8. Live animal kids shows, one year it was elephants, another camels, magic shows, comedy for kiddies.
9. Draft Pony pulls.
10. Working the booths. Have worked for both Habitat for Humanity and Right to Life.
Guess I should go see what the deadline is for this year, bound to be any day now. Can't compete in the baking now that we are "pros", but one category for decorated cakes we can...maybe this year we'll give that a shot against the other "pros"! or maybe some other crafty things....

2. Concerts
3. Food - fried stuff, sno-cones, BBQ corn and ethnic food.
4. Walking around people watching.
5. Last year at the fair there was an heckler at the dunking booth. He was so obnoxious it made you watch.
6. The military reserves has a area with a helicopter, rock climbing wall or a boxing ring with those poles with a big stuffed box on each end to knock each other down. Each year it's something different.
7. The farm animals, petting zoo, 4H area.
8. The lights at night and fireworks finale.
9. Sounds of the fair - screams of fright or joy.
